Letter Sounds for Beginning Readers

Learning letter sounds is one of the first steps toward reading. Children begin by connecting a printed letter with the sound it can make, then use those sounds to start blending simple words.

In each Beach Cat lesson, your child practices one sound, reads a few beginner-friendly words, and finishes with a tiny story so the sound appears in real reading.

Start with any letter below, or follow the recommended learning path. When your child is comfortable identifying sounds and blending simple words, continue to Short Vowel Stories โ†’
